Claude Apps (Imagine, etc.)

Claude Apps refers to the suite of integrated interfaces and companion tools that extend Claude beyond simple web chat. These include the Claude web app (claude.ai), Claude Desktop, Claude for iOS and Android, Claude in Chrome (browser extension), Claude for Excel and PowerPoint (Office add-ins), Claude Cowork (agentic desktop automation), and Claude Design (visual creation and prototyping). Together they form an ecosystem where Claude can operate across your devices, files, and third-party apps rather than only responding in a single chat window. Each app targets a different workflow. Mobile apps let Claude interact with your phone's native apps—drafting calendar events, setting reminders, reading health and fitness data. Office add-ins allow Claude to manipulate spreadsheets and presentations directly. The Chrome extension lets Claude navigate and act on websites. Cowork brings code-agent-style automation to general knowledge work on your desktop. Claude Design (the successor to the deprecated 'Imagine with Claude' preview) lets users generate interactive HTML/CSS/JS prototypes, slide decks, and visual assets through a split-pane canvas powered by Anthropic's most capable vision models. 'Imagine with Claude' was a 5-day experimental research preview launched in late September 2025 alongside Sonnet 4.5. It was deprecated and fully replaced by Claude Design, which launched officially on April 17, 2026 under the Anthropic Labs banner. Claude Design is the current, supported product in this space and is what users should reference going forward.

When you’d use it

  • Automated Spreadsheet ReportingA finance analyst uses Claude for Excel to generate a monthly budget report. Claude reads raw transaction data, builds pivot tables by cost center, inserts bar and pie charts, and applies conditional formatting that flags overspending in red—all via natural-language instructions inside Excel.
  • Interactive UI PrototypingA product manager uses Claude Design to build a clickable mobile onboarding flow. They describe the screens in natural language, Claude generates functional HTML/CSS/JS that renders live on the canvas, and the PM iterates by commenting inline. The final output is exported as a standalone HTML package for developer handoff.
  • Mobile Calendar and Task ManagementA busy professional uses the Claude iOS app to draft meeting invitations, set reminders, and check schedule availability by simply asking Claude in conversational language. Claude interfaces with the device's native Calendar and Reminders apps to execute these actions.
  • Multi-Step Browser AutomationA researcher uses Claude in Chrome to collect structured data across multiple websites. Claude reads page content, navigates between tabs, fills out forms, and compiles the results into a summary—tasks that would otherwise require manual tab-switching or custom scripts.
  • Parallel Agentic Knowledge Work with CoworkAn engineering lead uses Claude Cowork on Desktop to prepare for a product launch. Three parallel agent threads run simultaneously: one monitors GitHub for open pull requests, one drafts the customer announcement email, and one updates the internal wiki with a launch checklist. All outputs feed back into a single conversation for review before execution.

What changed recently

  • 2025-09-30'Imagine with Claude' launched as a 5-day experimental research preview alongside the Sonnet 4.5 release, showcasing real-time software generation and DOM manipulation. It was a limited-time preview, not a permanent product.
  • 2026-04-17Claude Design officially launched under the Anthropic Labs banner, replacing 'Imagine with Claude'. Powered by Opus 4.7, it offers a persistent split-pane canvas, Brand Kit extraction, inline commenting, and export to PowerPoint and Canva. Available in research preview on Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans (off by default for Enterprise).
  • 2026-01Claude Cowork became generally available on macOS and Windows through Claude Desktop, bringing code-agent-style agentic capabilities to general knowledge work. Enterprise admins gained role-based permission controls and group-level spend limits for Cowork.
  • 2026-05-18Anthropic permanently doubled the monthly token limits for Claude Design across all eligible plan tiers (Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise) in response to user feedback about rapid quota depletion when generating complex prototypes.
